Referral Tips
Submitting specialist referrals through Rocket Doctor is designed to be simple and efficient. When referrals are sent through the MD Portal/Starship, our Specialist Team and internal clinical team of Nurses and PAs can manage the referral process on your behalf.
This means you no longer need to search for specialists based on the patient’s geographic area or worry about referrals being rejected due to incorrect routing. Our team will coordinate the referral and help connect your patient with the appropriate specialist.
How to Submit a Specialist Referral
To ensure your referral is processed smoothly, follow these steps:
- Complete your referral note/letter
- Ensure your notes contain the necessary clinical details for the receiving specialist.
- Please refer to the documentation guide for details on how to structure your notes to ensure they are complete and accepted.
- Select the appropriate specialty
- In the referral field within the form funnel, select the specialty required for your patient.
- eFax the referral
- Send the referral to “RD Referrals Clerk”, which will auto-populate in the system.
What Happens Next
Once submitted, our team will take care of the rest:
- The referral will be reviewed and coordinated by the Rocket Doctor Specialist Team.
- We will first attempt to connect the patient with MDs on the Rocket Doctor platform, who may be able to see patients more quickly.
- If needed, our team will coordinate with external specialists.
Example: Psychiatry Referrals
For psychiatry referrals, we currently have several psychiatrists on the platform who are accepting new referrals.
