Following up on clinical results
Providers are reminded that it is their professional responsibility and obligation to follow up the results of tests, investigations, and consultations for the patients they have cared for. Rocket Doctor does not accept any liability for the review of these results. Providers are required to follow standards of care when reviewing clinical results.
Providers are required to ensure their practice address is up-to-date at all times. The Rocket Doctor office address (180 John Street, Toronto, ON) is not to be used as Rocket Doctor is serving as your technical platform (ie. you would not identify Telus PSS or OSCAR’s physical address as your address). Rocket Doctor will assign you a unique e-fax number. The address you enter and e-fax number should be provided when you register with lab companies. The same details will be used on any requisitions and prescriptions you create.
Rocket Doctor will send providers an email notification upon receipt of laboratory results to the MD Portal. Providers are responsible for ensuring requisitions and consult requests contain their unique e-fax number. Patient results should only be received via fax, telephone communication or other secure means for transmission of personal health information.
Providers should document on the patient’s chart once laboratory results have been reviewed.
Providers are responsible for reviewing and acting on their results even when on vacation or on extended leave. This includes times when the provider has paused their account with Rocket Doctor. Rocket Doctor expects the provider will make arrangements for their results to be reviewed during these times, and accepts no responsibility if the provider does not make arrangements for their results to be reviewed.
When a provider leaves Rocket Doctor they are required to give 30 days notice. In those 30 days they will be charged the EMR fee and no patients will be booked for them. Providers are expected to complete their outstanding charts and all outstanding results within this 30 day period. Unless other arrangements have been made, after 30 days all outstanding results and any results received after the 30 days will be forwarded by registered mail to the last address Rocket Doctor has on file for the provider.
Providers are expected to comply with all regulations around closing their practice in the jurisdiction in which they practice. Providers should consider leaving Rocket Doctor equivalent to closing their practice. Regulations for closing practices vary from province to province but in general, providers are expected to:
- Give adequate notice to patients
- Make reasonable efforts to provide ongoing care
- Arrange for patients records to be maintained
- Arrange for patients to have access to their records
- Complete all their charts
- Make arrangements for patient results to be reviewed
