Managing Payee Numbers and LFP Claims in Starship

As of October 2024, the billing feature in British Columbia has been updated to allow physicians to configure their payee number, manage and submit other telehealth and longitudinal family physician (LFP) claims, and choose any service and diagnostic codes directly within the platform. Please review the full details carefully.

Payee Number / LFP Facility Number in Your Settings Page

  • Before you submit any new claims, you must first go to the Settings page to add your Payee Number.
  • If you belong to an LFP group, you must enter your LFP Facility Number to enable the LFP billing options.

Important: If you only have one Payee Number, it will match your MSP number. If you have multiple Payee Numbers and prefer to use a different one, enter the alternate Payee Number. However, you must manually save the alternate Payee Number number in the MDBilling platform before submitting new claims.

  • After updating your Settings, go to the Portal page and click New Billing to open the New Claim window. Here, you'll find a new Model Type dropdown that allows you to switch between Telehealth and LFP visits, with the service code auto-populated accordingly.
  • If you haven’t entered an LFP Facility Number in your Settings, the Model Type dropdown will default to Telehealth and be greyed out.

  • Once the LFP Facility Number is configured, you can toggle between Telehealth and Longitudinal Family Physician. By default, the dropdown will show Telehealth.

Model Type: Telehealth

  • A new Visit Type dropdown has been added, enabling you to choose one of the following options. Telehealth Visits will be the default option.
    • Telehealth Consultation
    • Telehealth Counselling
    • Telehealth Visits
    • Telehealth Text-based Care
  • The system will automatically select the appropriate service code based on the patient’s age, but you can choose any available service and diagnostic codes.

Model Type: Longitudinal Family Physician

  • When you select Longitudinal Family Physician, the Visit Type dropdown will be hidden.
  • The Service Code dropdown will default to 98062 - LFP Locum Virtual Interaction by Phone or Video, but you can select any service code.

Claim Submissions with Start Time and End Time

  • You can add Start and End Times for claims by enabling the option, which will display the relevant fields.
  • The Start and End Times will default to the scheduled appointment times, but you can manually adjust them if needed.

Important: Only the Telehealth Counselling Visit Type requires Start and End Times.
