Referral Management Guide for Rocket Doctor Generalists
This guide outlines how to create, submit, and track referrals through Rocket Doctor—whether you're working on the platform or from a community clinic or hospital.
🔄 Making a Referral from the Rocket Doctor Platform
To submit a referral to a Specialist from within the Rocket Doctor platform, please watch this short instructional video:

When creating a referral, please include the following information to ensure appropriate triage and timely care:
- Clinical question
- Name of preferred Specialist, if applicable (If not, include the patient’s location so we can find a nearby provider)
- Indicate if an in-person consult is required
- Indicate if referral is URGENT
- Past medical history
- Current medications
- Relevant imaging and labs (can be attached at the final step)
Our Referrals Team will review and direct the referral to:
- A Rocket Doctor Specialist, if available and appropriate based on referral criteria
- An external Specialist, if the consult must occur in-person or if a suitable provider is not available on our platform

🏥 Referring from an In-Person Clinic or Hospital
You can refer patients from your hospital or clinic to a Rocket Doctor Specialist!
Two Easy Ways to Refer:
- Fax your referral letter to: 647-696-8973
- Submit online at www.rocketdoctor.io → click “Refer a Patient”, select your province, and complete the form.

🔄 Tracking Referral Status
- Check the patient chart for status updates (fax sent, triage completed, appointment booked, etc.)
- All actions (faxing, triage, follow-up) are recorded in the chart
- For additional questions: email referrals@rocketdoctor.io
⏱️ Timelines and Follow-Up
- Urgent referrals are reviewed within 24 hours
- All referrals are first addressed within 72 hours
- Referrals are followed up at 2 weeks to confirm acceptance
- If there is no update from the Specialist, our team will follow up to confirm receipt and acceptance status
- If declined, the referring provider will be notified and asked whether they’d like it redirected
🔁 Referral Routing Logic
- If a specific consultant is named and the referral is declined, the provider will be contacted for redirection instructions.
- If no specific consultant is named, the referral is directed to the first available appropriate provider, prioritizing Rocket Doctor Specialists when possible.
- All actions, decisions, and updates are documented in the patient chart.

As the referring provider, please ensure that:
- Your referral contains all required clinical details
- Your referral aligns with your provincial licensing requirements
