Ontario Blended Model
🏥 Ontario Blended Model Overview
With the Ontario Blended Model, your clinics will include a mix of OHIP-covered, chat-based, and private-pay patients. This model supports flexibility while maximizing care access for a range of patient needs.
📊 Patient Mix
A typical blended clinic consists of:
- Approximately 80% OHIP-covered appointments
- Approximately 20% private-pay or chat-based visits
This balance is designed to offset fee reductions and ensure your average income per clinic remains sustainable. Our team actively monitors the mix to help keep clinics fairly filled and aligned with your preferences.
📅 What Does a Typical Schedule Look Like?
Blended clinics are generally booked in 4-hour or 8-hour blocks. Your schedule may include:
- OHIP video visits
- Private-pay video visits
- Chat-based consultations
Patient types are matched based on your clinical preferences and availability.
⚙️ Clinical Preferences
To help fill your clinic efficiently, we recommend keeping your clinical preferences broad.
When preferences are too narrow, it can delay or prevent bookings.
If you’d like to update your preferences:
- Click the Get Help button on your MD Portal.
- Submit your request to adjust your criteria.
- Our Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) team will update your portal accordingly.
💵 Billing & Compensation
Rocket Doctor uses a blended payment model:
- Insured (OHIP) Appointments: Billed through the MDBilling.ca integration to your Starship (MD Portal)
- Private-Pay and Chat Visits: Rocket Doctor collects payment directly from patients and credits your share to your monthly payout
How Payments Work
- At the end of each billing period, we issue an invoice or credit note
- If a provider is owed money, a credit note is issued and payment is processed via direct deposit
- Payments are made semi-monthly, typically before the last day of the month
📄 For chat visits, you can ignore the "MDBilling" icon in your MD Portal—those are billed internally by Rocket Doctor
